The successful candidate is likely to be a recent graduate or a planner with 1-2 years experience, with a Bachelors (or Masters) Level Degree in planning or a related field, though applications are welcome from candidates of all backgrounds and circumstances. Ironside Farrar are looking for an enthusiastic senior PMO to join our award-winning Edinburgh practice.
Ironside Farrar are sector leading in the delivery of specialist Planning Monitoring Officer (PMO) services to support Scottish Government (Energy Consents Unit) and Local Planning Authorities and individual developers. The requirement for a PMO is a typical requirement of major energy consents as well as other major / long term projects to oversee compliance with environmental and planning conditions. Our environment team is currently providing PMO services on a range of projects including:
The role involves regular (minimum monthly and sometimes weekly) site visits to projects across Scotland as well as environmental review and audit of documents (e.g. EIA and documents submitted to discharge planning conditions). Our PMO team need to be confident on site and in construction environments so a level of site experience is essential. The role may suit an ECOW looking to broaden their scope.
The successful applicant will work alongside our existing experienced PMO team on a range of existing commissions. We would support the successful applicant in achieving a lead environmental auditor qualification in line with ISO 14001.

Ironside Farrar are looking for an enthusiastic landscape architect or landscape planner to join our award-winning Edinburgh practice.
The successful applicant will deliver Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment (LVIA) alongside our environmental planning and design teams on a number of high profile and challenging projects. The role will also involve providing early landscape planning and landscape frameworks as part of masterplanning commissions and increasingly working closely with colleagues to integrate a ‘landscape led’ approach. We are also involved in other forms of landscape planning advice and assessment for a range of clients and project types in Scotland and the UK.
We are driven to secure best landscape and environmental outcomes from all our commissions and work closely with other professionals in delivery of a portfolio of projects for private and public sector clients across a diverse range of developments including energy, minerals, transport and urban development as well as input to strategic planning and assessment.
You will bring a willingness to learn, fresh ideas and contribute fully to multi-disciplinary teams and projects. You must have an excellent standard of written communication and presentation and enjoy a fast paced and varied workload.
