The Causey Development Trust, The City of Edinburgh Council, Sustrans & Edinburgh World Heritage
Securing support and funding from partners, The Causey Development Trust is promoting a community driven project in Edinburgh’s Southside.
With transformation of street space at is heart, the proposal seeks to reprioritise historic streets from car dominated rat-run, traffic island & busy through route into a people-focused place which forms the new social heart and meeting place for the local community.
A new space brings together and physically connects two church congregations, local shops and community centre to encourage opportunities for social interaction within a safe, attractive, accessible and appealing space.
The objective is to create a destination, contributing positively to urban living/public life as well as a pleasant place to move through.
This is an innovative and challenging project noted to be at the forefront of shaping the future for reprioritised street design within Edinburgh’s historic street environs. Local dialogue has been influential in understanding of issues and informing the most appropriate solutions capable of addressing a very complex range of aspirations, needs, and requirements.
